Grilled Grapefruit Medly

2 Grapefruit

1/3 cup brown sugar

4 tablespoons brandy or medium sherry

1 tablespoon butter

1/3 cup golden raisins

1/8 cup candied cherries

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

 

  1. Cut the grapefruit in halves, remove cores and loosen segments.

  2. Sprinkle with half the brown sugar.

  3. Sprinkle the brandy or sherry over the grapefruit halves and place under a hot grill [broiler] for 3 minutes or until hot, or if using the brandy until it flares.

  4. Meanwhile, heat the remaining brown sugar, the butter, raisins, cherries, and ginger and stir until well mixed and just bubbling.

  5. Place the grapefruit halves in individual dishes and pile the fruit sauce on top.

  6. Serve immediately as a festive and warming first course.
